Theo Experiences Student Life at Solent University
On a jam-packed two-day tour, Theo visited the School of Business, Law & Communications, the brand new Sports Centre and the School of Art, Design and Fashion at Solent University, where he is Chancellor.
Theo started his tour experiencing a replica court; complete with a Judge, Barrister and witnessing a faux trial in action. Theo then joined the communication students in a tense mock crisis situation where the scenario posed a bomb threat ahead of an awards ceremony and how the students would react and the processes involved. We’re pleased to report it was a success!
Theo also visited journalism students who were taking part in a voice coaching session, before joining broadcast students just in time for a live broadcast from St Mary’s Stadium, ahead of the Southampton game that evening!
To round off day 1 Theo then headed to the Real World Learning showcase where simulations take place for a wide range of different subjects, including advertising, business innovation projects, crime scene and sports journalism broadcasts.
Day 2 saw Theo tour the school of Art , Design and Fashion. Putting his creative hat on, Theo worked with some vintage Letter Presses, with the help of some students and also visited Re:So (Retail Solent) where students can showcase their designs. He visited the Fashion Management and Marketing students who were sharing their designs, with everything also for sale to other students...enter the designers of tomorrow!
Theo attended the Solent Showcase where there were lots of different stations and things going on and drew on a scaled map of Southampton, even pointing out the Boux Avenue store nearby! He was then asked to write on the wall how he would describe Solent University, so wrote “Genuine and Real.”
The evening saw Theo address the Solent Alumni event, welcoming back old faces and celebrating the University.
